Helping the Community

Upton upon Severn is a small, close-knit community and we often find one organisation helping another.

MISAR is always willing consider helping out when asked, whatever the occasion.

Flooding
When flooding threatens the town, MISAR are there to help residents in whatever way required. They deliver sandbags to those who cannot collect their own. They tow out vehicles that have become stranded in flooded roads. In 2007 flood barriers were trialled by the Environment Agency, and MISAR helped put the barriers up and manned the pumps which removed water from specially constructed sumps.

MISAR have an official agreement with the Environment Agency to provide trained personnel for erection of flood barriers and suitable safety cover.

Upton upon Severn Tourism & Trade Association (UTTA)
Every year the UTTA puts up flags in the Summer, and at the end of November these are replaced with Christmas trees.

MISAR collects the trees and they are dressed by members of the UTTA. The following weekend members of the MISAR crew deliver the dressed trees to the town centre and put them in place. UTTA make a donation to MISAR to help their funds.

Duck Races
Upton in Bloom and the Water Festival Committee both hold duck races as part of their fundraising efforts. MISAR are on hand to shepherd the ducks to the finish line after they are thrown off the bridge and collect them after the race.
